Parents: If the parents of the child to be baptized belong to a parish other than St. Joseph’s, you will need: - A Letter of Good Standing from the pastor of your parish - Written permission from your pastor for child to be baptized at St. Joseph’s
Godparents: A godparent (sponsor) helps the baptized person to lead a Christian life in keeping with baptism and to fulfill faithfully the obligation inherent in it. At least one godparent (sponsor) must have completed their sixteenth year of age and must be fully initiated into the Catholic faith (Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation) and living the faith in a manner that is in keeping with the responsibility of the office of godparent. There is to be only one male sponsor or one female sponsor or one of each. A Baptized Christian person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community may participate together with a Catholic godparent, and then only as a witness of the baptism. Godparents will need: - A Certificate/Letter of Eligibility from each Catholic godparent (sponsor)’s parish stating they are a Catholic in Good Standing
This form and necessary Permissions/Letters of Good Standing are due in the church office prior to putting the date of baptism on the calendar.
