First Holy Communion

First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are important milestones in your child’s life of faith. Through Reconciliation, your child encounters the mercy and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Through the Eucharist, your child receives Jesus truly present under the appearances of bread and wine and begins to participate more fully in the life of the Church.

Preparation is not simply about completing lessons. It is about helping your child grow in friendship with Jesus, learn to pray, participate in the Mass, and understand the beauty of the sacraments. Parents have an essential role in this preparation as the first and primary educators of their children in the faith

Faith Formation at St Joseph Catholic Church offers sacramental preparation and formation for 2nd graders and older to prepare for First Reconciliation in the Fall of 2025 and First Holy Communion in the Spring of 2026. All parish children should register and attend, regardless of school affiliation. Communion preparation students will be using the Signs of Grace books and materials. The You Are Loved and You Are Forgiven series will help children discover the love and mercy of Christ that has been revealed both in Sacred Scripture and through the rich teaching of the Church as particularly expressed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The average cost for each child in the program is $50. We encourage families to make an investment in the formation of their child’s faith. Donations to help cover the cost of your child’s religious education can be made using this link or at the parish or on any Shepherd Sunday. If cost is ever a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We never want finances to be a barrier to participation.
