Great sensitivity is required in choosing your wedding dress. Your dress is to be appropriate to the Sacrament you are about to receive. Keep in mind that your wedding is a Sacrament - an outward sign of grace instituted by Christ. You will be standing very close to the priest as he says Mass at the altar and as you kneel while receiving the Eucharist. The neckline of the wedding gown should be modest, the back of the dress cut no lower than 2 inches above the natural waist, and the hem no shorter than 2 inches below the crease at the back of the knee. In addition, you should select modest gowns for your wedding party, avoiding dresses that are low cut or very short in length, in keeping with the sacred surroundings and the Sacrament celebrated. It is very important to follow these guidelines. If you are not completely confident that your dress meets these guidelines, or if you have questions about your bridesmaid dress selection, please submit your questions or a picture of your dress to Connie at connie@st-joseph.cc.
